The difference between carbon and fiberglass table tennis rackets

Fiberboard is widely use now, in fact, the fiber is not mysterious, now the mainstream fiber (such as aromatic carbon) was introduced into the ball board as early as 20 years ago. At that time, table tennis did not need the ball board to have such a strong supporting force, so the “naturally tough” fibreboard was only a minority product. As the ball speed continues to slow down, the veneer lethality is also weakening, pure wood has been a little tired, the more all-powerful fiberboard has become a meteor.

The fiber materials that have been used in the manufacture of composite fiber soleplate are carbon fiber, aryl fiber and glass fiber. their common characteristic is that they can improve the hitting efficiency of the soleplate, and they are commonly used composite materials for making table tennis soleplate.

Carbon fiber

The chemical composition of carbon fiber is “polypropylene cyano carbon material”, which is a composite material formed by the reaction of carbon fiber and matrix resin. Its physical properties such as strength and specific elasticity can be comparable to that of metal, but its weight is much lighter. Therefore, this material is used to make a highly elastic ping-pong floor, and its general properties are as follows: high strength, small range of vibration, so the ball feels hard.

Due to the rapid removal of the plate, the recovery time from vibration to rest is short, and it is not easy to form a strong bottom force. The utility model is characterized by light weight, large rebound force, low and flat hitting arc and high speed.

Glass fiber

Glass fiber is a kind of inorganic non-metallic material with excellent properties. The ingredients are silicon dioxide, alumina, calcium oxide, boron oxide, magnesium oxide, sodium oxide and so on. It uses glass balls or waste glass as raw materials to form all kinds of products through high temperature melting, wire drawing, winding, weaving and other processes. This is a more common material, its strength is not as strong as carbon fiber, toughness is not as good as aryl fiber, but in terms of its performance-to-price ratio is the highest, can bring good performance at a low price.

Glass fiber is often used in pole vaulting struts, and its high ductility and resilience are unmatched by other fibers. The feel of the ball board made with it is much softer than that of pure carbon fiber board, and the rebound speed is not as fast as that of carbon board, but it is obviously better than that of pure wood board. However, it is precisely because the strength of glass fiber is not high, and the hitting feeling is too soft, so the vibration recovery time is long, and the feel is too close to pure wood. Although the strength is slightly improved after mixing with carbon fiber, it is still limited. Therefore, most of the ball boards with glassy carbon are biased towards the “feel system”.
