How to remove stains on the surface of carbon fiber material?

Carbon fiber is made of man-made chemical fiber that contains high carbon content and does not melt during heat treatment, and is made by processes such as heat stable oxidation treatment, carbonization treatment and graphitization. As a new generation of reinforced materials, carbon fiber composite materials have a series of advantages such as light weight, high strength, fatigue resistance, earthquake resistance, high temperature resistance, and dimensional stability. They are widely used in many fields and industries. Carbon fiber composite parts need to be treated on their surface before being connected to ensure a strong connection.

There are many ways of surface treatment of carbon fiber composite products. Today we will talk about the following 3 ways:

Polishing

Polishing method is a common treatment method, which can quickly remove impurities on the surface of carbon fiber composite materials, and can improve the surface roughness, increase the occlusal ability, and thus increase the durability of the structural adhesive. Commonly used grinding tools are: wire brush, sandpaper or file, etc.;

Solvent wipe

The cleaning solvent is used. This method requires that the stain can be dissolved by the solvent and that the solvent itself does not contain dissolved contaminants. Surface stains can be wiped with alcohol. Common solvents are: acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, xylene, trichloroethylene, ethanol and isopropanol. When carbon fiber products need to be glued, they must be wiped with a solvent first to ensure that there is no dust and glue on the surface. In the process of using solvents, protective measures must be taken to ensure indoor air circulation.

Flame treatment

The flame treatment process refers to the process of oxidizing the plastic surface with a strong oxidizing flame, which can increase the surface activity of carbon fiber products and increase the adhesion of the primer and the bumper. It can be divided into two methods: mechanical flame cleaning and artificial flame cleaning. This method is suitable for the processing of polypropylene (PP) matrix composite materials. During use, the ratio of gas to oxygen, flow rate, exposure time and the distance between the flame and the matrix can be easily adjusted.

The above are commonly used 3 surface treatment technologies for carbon fiber composite products when they are connected. In some carbon fiber products with higher precision requirements, plasma treatment, corona discharge treatment, chemical treatment and other methods are also used. No matter which method is used, as long as the surface stains can be removed cleanly.
