How carbon fiber tubes are connected to metal parts?

Carbon fiber tube is made of carbon fiber composite pre-dipped into phenylethylene polyester resin and heated, solidified and extruded (entangled). It is a carbon fiber composite material, which has the advantages of light weight, high strength and flexible design, so it is widely used in different fields.

There are four ways to connect carbon fiber to metal parts, which are gluing, mechanical connection, mixed connection and pre-embedding.


Gluing is a technological method to connect two adhesive parts by using the mechanical binding force, physical adsorption force and chemical bonding force produced by the adhesive on the bonding surface. The gluing of carbon fiber pipe uses epoxy structural adhesive to connect carbon fiber pipe and parts, or it can be polished and chemical reagents can be used to improve the roughness of metal surface, which can consolidate the connection. it has the advantages of light structure, high connection efficiency, anti-fatigue, anti-vibration, anti-corrosion and so on.

Although the carbon fiber tube is not a metal, it has conductive properties, and when it is connected to the metal with a structural adhesive, it can achieve the effect of anti-corrosion. The most important feature of gluing is simplicity.

Mechanical Connection

The connection point of the mechanical connection can transfer a large load, which is convenient for disassembly, inspection and maintenance, and ensures the safe and effective use of the structure. However, the hardness of carbon fiber is high, so it is difficult to process, so there are some difficulties in machining. The mechanical connection of carbon fiber includes thread connection and rivet connection.

This method can transfer heavy load, good peeling resistance, allows disassembly after assembly, is little affected by the environment, and there is no residual stress caused by bonding and curing. The disadvantages are weight increase and stress concentration.

Mixed Connection

Mixed connection refers to the use of two connections in one connection at the same time. In other words, in the connection, both mechanical connection and glue bonding are used to make the connection between the carbon fiber tube and the metal parts closer, and the products are more sturdy and durable.


Pre-embedding is when the prepreg layer is made of carbon fiber pipe and carbon fiber products, the metal parts are placed on the position reserved by the prepreg, and then put into the mold for heating and pressure curing, which plays a connecting role.
